Dr. Rob Steeman is Vice-President Technology Strategy for REC Solar Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. He holds a PhD in physics from the University of Leyden, The Netherlands. After his studies, he joined the Netherlands Energy Research Foundation ECN, where he was one of the pioneers who built up the now highly acclaimed R&D group for Silicon Photovoltaics. In 1996, he left ECN to join Shell Solar. He was one of the key members in the project team that developed the fist fully in-line production line for multi-crystalline silicon solar cells and was one of the pioneers in the development of inline etching. From mid 2003 to mid 2006, he headed the pilot line for CIGS thin-film modules for Shell Solar in Camarillo, California. In September 2006, he joined REC Solar in Norway, where he became responsible for equipment and process engineering activities for the new solar cell manufacturing plant in Singapore. He moved to Singapore in July 2009, responsible for cell technology development. Since June 2014 he is VP Technology Strategy. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of SERIS and the Program Advisory Committee of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University.
